ROXYSKATEGROUP@aol.com : The mission of RSG, is to inform our members about "THE ROXY SKATING RINK" (NYC's
premier indoor rink for over 25 years) i.e.  Deejays, special ROXY events and parties, Skate dates, emergency closing,
and we pass along skate related information in FWD (forwarding emails). Your suggestions welcome.
Hi Folks,
JULIO announced alcohol will be served this Friday for the CLOSING PARTY!
9 PM to 4 AM - $20.00 admission! (why it's more-I have no clue)

Lezly - Rick - Joe and I met on Tuesday night to discuss our joint progress
on SAVING ROXY!
Options are still being researched by us and Suzanne with her team.
I will suggest an open forum of more volunteer skaters and see what we
can put together.
Any ideas people have can be sent to me in the mean time.

RICH WRITES:
Maybe it makes sense to get together and discuss
the options for production and distribution of a
documentary, special interest story but we have
to move fast.  Thoughts?     Rich
if you have a response to this, email me and I'll forward.

Jill WRITES: Hi Charlie,

Along with making a documentary of skating, I think we should all contact
the TV news stations, the Daily News (any columnist) and other
newspapers to ask for exposure and ask people to help. Skating can't be
dead all over the country if the movie RollBounce just came out last year.
Skating is good, clean, healthy fun. I find it hard to believe people aren't
interested, so I think they just don't know ROXY is there! That’s
management’s fault.

Get Steven Greenberg back! He knew how to manage a rink and make it
profitable. Those were the days, huh? There were lines at the door. ROXY
was never the same once Steven left.
See you Wednesday,
Jill
RICK WRITES:
It is imperative for the health and well being of the citizens of New York and
those who visit, that this rink stay open and others need and must be
developed.  With the advent of the web and video games it is a well
documented fact the youth of today is obese due to inactivity because kids
do not go out to play anymore.
How sad.
It is very possible if we made activities such as roller skating easily
available to today’s youth we would not be raising fat kid destined to have
health problems and it would keep adults healthier and happier longer.
Look at the success that Roller Blading has created outdoors.

For adults, a low impact sport as indoor roller skating has kept a segment
of the population healthier, happier, and younger than any other, (better
than gyms) because the passion towards skating that develops keep
people skating into their 80’s.
It is imperative that the government and planners see the economic benefit
in keeping people healthier, happier, and younger.  Skating is a way to do
that.
It is imperative that the government and planners see that when people
develop a routine of doing something on a regular basis and of something
that they are passionate for that it improves ones quality of life and
transcends to all other segments of the population and neighborhood’s
well being.
Skating develops a sense of belonging, a sense of family, a sense of well
being (the value of real exercise) and a sense of purpose.  It is what all
religions aspire to do yet there are no places of worship that are slated for
destruction.
Skating is the best vehicle to achieve this level of quality of life for the
people and community.
The no smoking laws, no trans-fat laws, no talking on cell phone and all the
other ways the government is trying to keep us safer, healthier, happier,
and younger is because in the long run, money will be saved by the
government and the health care system.  By keeping more people alive for
a longer time it will eventually yields higher revenues for all segments of
our economy.  Taking skating away is in direct opposition to the
governments efforts to improve health and quality of life.

It is hoped that the government and planners can come to realize the
potential a simple skating rink possesses.
